Either Biscuit the beagle has quite the vertical or else she can squish herself into quite a skinny puppy in order to fit under a fence. But however she did it, we learned last week that she could get out of a fenced back yard.
After blocking places where we thought she could get out, she found her way to freedom anyway. The next effort was to tie her up in the back yard, but again, she broke free.
On Sunday morning, we didn't want to keep her doggie door blocked and hoped that her collar would stay attached to the chain. Knowing that she has not wandered far from home before, we were quite positive that if she did escape, she would be close by when we returned. But only her collar and tags were left behind.
Geof and the girls scoured the whole of Valleyview and put up posters but she was nowhere to be found.
The following morning, Geof, along with some other fellows, were driving truck for Jake. As they emptied their last loads, Geof casually mentioned that we had lost our beagle the night before.
This piqued some interest in one of the other guys. "Hey, a friend of mine - has a friend - who found a Beagle last night."
Geof was then reunited with Biscuit! The finder, who happens to love beagles was more than willing to respond to any advertisements about a lost puppy but also happy to keep her. As it turns out, he picked her up at the Alliance Church parking lot - right across the road from our house. He had opened up his truck door, saw that the dog had no collars, she hopped in, and he drove her across town to his place.
After sleeping with him in his bed that night, I'm not so sure she was altogether pleased to being returned as our "garage dog." But she seems happy to be back with us in her warm place, and a new collar and tie-up system should remedy the escapes. Experience shows that she will love being out on the acreage wherever her nose can lead her.
The girls were very happy to have Biscuit returned. We had spent some time in family prayer and privately willed God to answer the prayers of our children. It became a teachable faith lesson.
What other possible reason could there be that the very next day, Geof would run into a guy - who knows a friend - who has a friend - who found our dog?

:)!! i LOVE this story!! although the puppy reunion was the story's high point i can say that the 2nd best part was the line, "driving truck for Jake." Give him a hug on Sunday from me!!
ps. love reading your writing!
I'm so glad you found your puppy! What a loss that would have been. My parents' beagle likes to run away, too. Luckily, the last time he did it, their neighbors saw him and kept him until my parents came home. I guess they need to get an indestructible fence or something.
